Meet Uno……. he is our new (ish) youngster and he turned 3 last week. He is fast becoming a firm favorite with all who visit the yard and it’s easy to see why. He is beautiful to look at and super friendly- he is a baby in horse terms and therefore very curious. many young horses are shy and hesitant but Uno has buckets of confidence and he knows in his world people are safe! He was bred and raised by good friends of ours and was handled a lot from the day he was born and by young children. His version of the world has taught him that people are safe and fun and to be played with.

In terms of therapy, this means that even when someone is very nervous or anxious and a bit afraid of horses he has a sense of friendliness that wins over everyone’s hearts

This week we had a 1;1 with a lady that although she loved horses hadn’t been around them for a long while. She came to us as she had experienced many losses and traumatic events of the last decade or so and felt she needed something to help.

She was instantly drawn to Uno and spent most of her session with him. I could see he was having a profound effect on her and when she left I received the most amazing message from her explaining her thoughts as to what that interaction had meant.

(I shared this on our Facebook page)

It showed us again the simplest of activities can have a deep and meaningful effect on someone. That is why we are keen to help others learn about the work we do and go and offer it, with our support to others around the country.

A rippled effect of people being able to spend time with wonderful animals like Uno really could have an amazing effect on the mental health of the population.

We are planning some dates for the next few months to invite people interested in Equine Therapy to come and see what we do in person and take part in some learning with us. If this is of interest to you or anyone you know please share our email list and or the Facebook page.

We have also created a new group specifically to look at trauma and how horses can help people go from coping to healing.
